  • Driver: make an effort to assert this skill with other teams and units, doing more with this outside of our unit
  • Pillar: Stop, assess existing priorities, and ensure sustainability for self & team.
  • Advocate: talking to others and asking for feedback or brainstorming, listening, having conversations; spend time with pets, stretching, brainstorming or conversation with trusted friend/colleague.
  • Innovator: adjust approach based on where other stakeholders are; we talked less about strategies and more about how you have to fuse leadership styles and approaches for different stakeholders within any given effort/project to innovate. In order to innovate, you may have to be a Driver with your team, an Advocate with alumni, and a Pillar with other departments

The Initiatives

Giving and Receiving Feedback to Foster Learning + Growth

  • Improving how people receive feedback (listen, take in) in addition to how they give it (specific, shoulder-to-shoulder)
  • Change the “brand” of feedback - how people think about it (less defensiveness, more openness), receiving it as part of a mentorship or a growth opportunity
  • Growth mindset vs. fixed mindset - feedback for the sake of growth (a positive intention behind it)
  • Increasing frequency, as part of culture, so it’s lower stakes; encouraging people to initiate the feedback

Roster

  • Heather Abbott
  • Eric Barba
  • Jason Eiseman
  • Jackie Outlaw

Improved Cross Unit Communication + Collaboration

  • Interdepartmental opportunities to meet (i.e., Covid), learn from each other (cross-functional) - auditing what we are currently doing, taking a thoughtful approach - what’s the right cadence? (a way for all people to be involved)
  • Opportunities for strategic conversations when we bring together different units/depts
  • Uses of technology, how to be more uniform re: how we communicate - “best practices / recommendations”
  • Overarching communication best-practices and norms across YLS (how our unit impacts others; who else needs to know?)

Roster

  • Stephen Baraquin
  • Chloe Bush
  • Eleiah Sexton

Increased Project and Meeting Efficiency + Excellence

  • Meeting audits for departments to be thoughtful about when and how we are using meetings (types of meetings, who should be there, what’s most needed?)
  • Best practices that we could carry forward from Covid
  • Being rigorous about people’s time; thoughtfulness about the project - who needs to be there?
  • Focus on post-meeting / project - AARs, how do we become more efficient/better next time? Catch the learning!

Roster

  • Jonathan Biondi
  • Naomi Erwich
  • Nick Cifarelli
  • Sheila Daykin
